Autologous gluteal augmentation has been associated with significant complications, largely related to a lack of precise understanding of the anatomy of the buttock and gluteal region. This lecture focuses on the muscular, fascial and vascular anatomy of the gluteal region and potential dangers associated with intramuscular infiltration with autologous fat. Technical considerations and safe methods for lipoplasty and gluteal augmentation are presented based on a 3-dimensional understanding of buttock anatomy.
